We would like to tell you who we are and why we are here.
This Church was established in 1952 by the Pacific Southwest Regional Church (Disciples of Christ. The parentheses serve to identify us as one part of the greater body of Christendom. Some of our practices are unique and make us distinctive.
We are congregational in government and polity. All important matters are decided by a vote of the congregation.
We are the denomination known as CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST). The Church (DOC) is renowned for its sense of mission, its emphasis on higher education for both laity and clergy, its ecumenical concern, and its broad-based and unshackled theology, which is open to continuing interpretation through study and enlightenment.
We have no formal or rigid creed. In the 1830’s our forefathers adopted an influential slogan: “We have no creed but Christ, no book but the Bible.”
A service of Holy Communion, The Lord’s Supper, is observed every Sunday. Each worship service ends with a gathering at the Table of the Lord where we receive again, through the symbols of the bread and the cup, the life-giving love of Jesus Christ. Participation is both corporate and individual. All who love the Lord are invited to participate.
Communion is our central act of worship, and the Chalice with it’s St. Andrew’s Cross, is symbolic of our Scottish/Irish heritage.
The Bible is our principal source of spiritual inspiration. It reveals to us a pattern for living the Christian Life. Through it God teaches us about life, love, and truth. He continues to create and reveal new knowledge. Our conception of the Scriptures is not rigid. The Bible is a Divine gift, and we are serious about its revelation of God through Jesus Christ.
The Church is the body of Christ on earth, and through it, we seek to grow in Christian maturity and in our personal relationship with God. Jesus, Himself, is our example for becoming what God intends us to be.
